FOOD = LIFE on Thursday April 27th

At its best, good food can function as a bridge. Enjoying different types of cuisine can help one appreciate cultures, not of one’s own. Through foods communal nature, it truly has the capacity to bring people together. As Cesar Chavez, the civil rights and labor leader, put it, “If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him. […] the people who give you their food, give you their heart.”

At its worst, food can enlist gluttony and overindulgence, most assuredly followed by guilt. God knows I’ve had more than a few inebriated nights in my life, during which I’ve crushed a whole pizza myself and regretted it the next morning. On Thursday, April 27th at Jessy’s Taco Bistro in Ghent, Lynnhaven Coffee Company on Shore Drive, and other participating restaurants across Hampton Roads, this does not apply. You can forget the guilt and give over to your deepest edible desires when you Dine Out for Life!

If you are planning on letting your belly loose for one seriously indulgent meal this April, guilt free, knowing that it benefits people in need, then this is THE meal. Access AIDS has partnered with over 60 cities nationwide to raise money for AIDS service organizations. Twenty five percent or more of your check at participating restaurants on the 27th will go to this important cause. Make your meal matter Thursday, April 27th, indulge! Not only won’t you feel guilty, but you’ll know you are giving back with every delicious bite.

Current lunch menu at Lynnhaven Coffee Company. Exclusive specials will be available for the Dining Out for Life lunch.

“I thought it would be nice to contribute to a cause that helps so many people in a distressful situation. Every little bit counts and whatever Jessy’s can do to help we will gladly do.”-Jorge Romero Fonseca (Owner of Jessy’s)

“[…] Like many [causes] for diseases that kill, they get popular support for awhile but then [interest] seems to fade away. I’ve had friends die from A.I.D.S. and it was horrible. That’s why I chose to do Dining Out for Life”-Chris Bailey (Chef and managing partner of Lynnhaven Coffee Company)
