Founded in 2011 on the concept of getting more recognition for local food scenes, then lighting up computer screens in 2015 with the Nomarama- Norfolk, Virginia burger documentary, and finally setting the precedent for cutting edge Hampton Roads food events since 2016 with the annual Nomarama Burger Battles, Jarrell Williams through Nomarama has carved out quite the niche where the best of local food meets expert independent marketing. A list of the most influential 757 food influencers simply would not be complete without highlighting his work.

Part 2: Nomarama – Love Starts at Home

Nomarama’s slogan “Local Love” definitely has a double meaning. Not only does it reference Jarrell Williams’ constant focus on spotlighting Hampton Roads’ eateries and shops, but it also speaks to how his family underpins everything he does. Seeing his family at this year’s 5th Annual Nomarama Slider Competition at O’Connor’s Brewing Company in Norfolk setting up a lemonade stand, or being active at other Nomarama events to show their support is not an uncommon sight.

Nomarama, a marketing and advertising company that promotes local businesses, was founded by Williams in 2011 on the idea that he wanted to help the Hampton Roads community recognize not only the amount but the quality of local entrepreneurs operating in the seven cities.

While Nomarama started out as an idea in 2011, in the last five to six years, it has become well known and respected for it’s food vlogs and food events in the area, such as the aforementioned slider competition, the Late Night Munchie Market, and other pop-up events.

Having a career and a family plays an important role in Williams’ life. His wife Ali, and two sons (Lennon, who is eight, and Leo, who is two) are a strong support system for his work. Williams said, “It felt really good for my family to be there and to back me up. Even though I don’t want to tell them what to do, they do not mind helping and supporting…there’s a lot of family love.”
