All-Out Barbecue War in Norfolk is Imminent

By Southern Grit · On February 2, 2020

START DISPATCH:

Sources inside the “Barbecue Coalition of the 757” confirm to Southern Grit Media that a Barbecue War in Hampton Roads is all but certain in the West Ghent/Chelsea District of Norfolk on February 29, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Benchtop Brewing Company, located at 1129 Boissevain Avenue.

The upcoming mass meat munitions conflict dubbed Barbecue Wars 2: Hampton Roads, follows the 2017 Barbecue War that reigned down fire and smoke on Wasserhund Brewery in the Hilltop province of Virginia Beach. This year Barbecue brothers-in-arms Bob Roberts and his “Lieutenant Commander of Smoke” Floyd Thomas from Redwood Smoke Shack in Norfolk, the “Real Boss Hog of Hampton Roads” Forrest Warren of Smoke – Restaurant & Bar in Newport News, and the “Red Empress of Fire” Theresa Bell from Big Dog BBQ VA in Virginia Beach are among those fighting to see who will reign victorious in the great barbecue war of 2020 decided by the council of public opinion and an elite team convened by the joint chiefs of barbecue.

A temporary mess hall at Benchtop Brewing Company will provide respite throughout the duration of the war with special provisions, including a barbecue inspired beer and a traditional Virginia whole hog barbecue demonstration for all to sample presented as a neutral gesture of diplomacy and as a tribute to the birthplace of American barbecue – Virginia. Ambassador of barbecue and writer of the Virginia Barbecue: A History treatise, author Joseph R. Haynes, has also been dispatched to talk with the local populous about the legacy of Virginian barbecue that spread to the south and the rest of the United States.

Tickets for civilians and faction supporters are $30. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit bbqwarseventbritepage or www.facebook.com/southerngritmag
